Meet our team
Phil Chow, LMHC
Phil is proud to call NYC his home. As a first-generation Taiwanese-American, he was drawn to the vibrant culture of the Five Boroughs from a young age. He brings a rich cultural appreciation to the common struggles of New Yorkers, having faced adversity himself, and found inner strength in the process. Early in life, Phil identified the importance of creating a safe space when honoring the expression of self, and projects and protects that awareness in his therapeutic style. To embody this, Phil uses interventions from psychodynamic and existential/humanistic traditions, with bodywork, parts work, and narrative techniques playing a prominent role in his therapeutic style.
Phil has extensive training in medicine and considers neuroscience an avid interest. In practice, you will find that Phil borrows extensively from various bodies of knowledge such as philosophy, existentialism, metaphorical, and scientific constructs. It is this eclectic approach that is used to support clients build a framework for understanding their growth. Having had prior experience with therapy facilitates this, however, Phil is happy to work with clients who are new to therapy. The ideal client has an avid curiosity about themselves and is open to formative feedback, delivered compassionately.
Phil believes firmly in the proven nexus between the physical and the psychological. As such he blends his deft approach with a pragmatic, grounded scientific basis. Partly informed by his navigation and understanding of chronic illness. Phil welcomes the opportunity to support and guide you on your journey.
